5K Motorsports & Eggleston Team Up For 2009 Run in ASA LM North

Wisconsin Team & Colorado Driver Truly an Example of ASA’s National Touring Past

SLINGER, WI (December 19, 2008) – Years ago, the ASA National Tour was the crème de la crème of the short track racing world, with teams and drivers from all over the country racing in one place, gunning to be the best.  It was nothing new for a team from Wisconsin and a driver from Colorado to be racing with drivers from the rest of the country on tracks up and down the East Coast and all over the Midwest.

Now, the ASA Late Model Series has stepped into the same role following the National Tour’s demise.  And 5K Motorsports is following the same history; bringing the best talent from all over the country to the racetrack on any given weekend.

5K Motorsports, based in Slinger, Wisconsin, will team up with Colorado driver Chris Eggleston for the 2009 season and a run at the ASA Late Model Series North Championship.

“All of us at 5K Motorsports are very excited to have Chris drive our cars in the ultra-competitive ASA North Series for 2009,” said 5K Motorsports team owner Ken Wills.  “With Chris’s burning desire to win and our commitment to excellence, it should make for a great combination this coming season.”

Eggleston will bring years of experience and a wealth of youth exuberance to the 5K Motorsports team, led by Wills and championship-winning crew chief Deon Deneau.  5K Motorsports ran the full ASA Late Model Series North schedule in 2008, finishing second in the points and earning the Rookie of the Year title.

“I’m really excited for the year to get started,” said the 19-year-old Eggleston, a native of Erie, Colorado.  “Just getting in the seat of a 5K Motorsports car, working with Deon and Ken and just getting out there and knowing we’ll have a car that can run up front each week makes me ready for the season to start tomorrow.

“Ken actually approached me when we were in Memphis and came to our pits during some down time, got down on one knee and almost proposed to me in a jokingly way.  He actually just came over and said he was impressed with what we’ve done and that he was looking for a new driver for the 2009 season. That sparked some interest in me, I got some stuff figured out, and we were able to put this deal together.”

Eggleston’s career began like most in the Quarter Midget ranks, where he raced for 10 years and picked up over 300 feature wins and six National Championships.  Then, he moved into the Legends Cars before celebrating his 16th birthday and moving into the Super Late Model world at his local track, Colorado National Speedway.  After racing weekly at CNS and in select shows with the SRL Super Late Model Series and ASA Late Model Series, Eggleston and his family-owned team moved to the ASA Late Model Series North full-time in 2008.

“We always ran our stuff with family-owned equipment,” added Eggleston.  “We’ve had our share of success doing it.  I’ve been fortunate to have Mike Leary with Leary Racing Products take me under his wing and coach me.  That’s been a big help and has helped me get into this position.  Normally, it was just myself, my parents and a couple of volunteer crew guys. But the work will pay off this year.”

Working with Deneau is another part of the 5K Motorsports package that excites Eggleston immensely.

“That is an awesome opportunity to work with him.  I did research on him once this all got put together.  I’ve been talking to everyone and everyone has tons of stories to tell about him.  He comes from a great racing background and has a ton of knowledge on these cars.  With Deon and the rest of the team, I see no reason why we can’t compete for wins.”

Wills is equally excited about the season, and Eggleston’s exuberance just adds to that excitement.

“This is a tough business and its refreshing to have someone like Chris join our organization,” said Wills.  “Chris is a stand-up kid and will bring a lot to our team.  I can see he and the rest of the guys getting along great, which makes for better performance on the track.  I really have high hopes for the season this year and I know when all parts start working just right, we’ll be up at the front each weekend.”

The ASA Late Model Series North is tentatively schedule to begin April 25th at Toledo Speedway in Toledo, Ohio.
